Cheerleader’s Choice: New York Spirit

My latest game is Cheerleader’s Choice: New York Spirit a dark comedy about cheerleaders who fight crime and solve mysteries in dystopian New York (And it’s semi-autobiographical too). You can play a free demo of it on your phone or browser HERE.

As a member of New York Spirit, an adult cheer squad, you and your friends keep up the city’s spirits. New York desperately needs good cheer these days: masked vigilantes rule its chaotic dystopian streets, frightening locals and tourists alike. Corrupt politicians are taking the city in the wrong direction. Your leadership and cheering might get it back on the right path.
  • Not what you’re expecting from a cheerleader game!
  • Shake your pompoms in a dystopian version of New York
  • Play as male or female, young or old, a rookie or veteran cheerleader
  • Learn everything you need to know about cheerleading! Play as a total newbie.
  • Fight gangs like the Bad Mittens, the Leopard Seals, and the Fancy Lads.
  • Choose your position within the stunt pod: base, backspot, or flyer.
  • Infiltrate City Hall and bring down a corrupt government.
  • Choose your team’s name and signature colors, and design their uniform!

When the game launched, I did an author interview for the Choice of Games blog.  Here is a fun quote from it:

It might seem like my game was “ripped from the headlines” but the earliest outline I sent Choice of Games was back in 2020. All of the madness, chaos, and terror in New York politics for the last five years was predicted in my outline!

I foresaw how Governor Cuomo would resign! Curtis Sliwa would run for Mayor! The Adams’ indictment! Bill de Blasio murdering Staten Island Chuck on Groundhog’s Day, and the cover-up that followed!

You can read that whole interview here.

I did another interview about social and political themes in the game a few months later. I think my favorite quote from the interview is:

At a glance it might look like “Heated Rivalry with cheerleaders.” But it’s more like “Watchmen meets The Warriors.”
